FOOD RIDERS
Nowadays, deliveries are everywhere: everywhere and for everything. However, this new way of consuming is used more and more for food delivery. The Covid-19 tremendously helped to increase and accelerate the food deliveries, showing that more than 30% of French people are already into it.
Economically, it is a real benefit for the delivery companies (+114%, 2021) and for the delivery guys themselves. However, these delivery guys do not have the same benefits. Fewer companies (Just Eat, Uber Eat) offer “contracts” providing both insurance and fixed salaries while others pay their contributors only on the basis of the number of deliveries (approximately 30 EUR per 3 hours). The worst is that some companies do not take any responsibility in case of accidents of their “employees”. The social status of these new workers (mostly migrants 90,3%) is quite ambiguous, but it is gradually changing for the best.
Moreover, these day & night riders of cities are facing the virus from the very beginning using their bikes in empty streets all around the world. Hence, this series is built around 3 of them in Paris from February to June 2021.
This is the story of Ahmed, Paul, and Uma who during the periods of lockdowns and curfews became a part of the transition between the world of before and the world of after. The goal of this project is to shed light into their routine, their experiences and as well to explore their personalities.
